Ahmad Siyar Qasimi (b. 1986) is educated from Det Kgl. Danish Academy of Arts and lives and works in Copenhagen.
He works with drawing and painting, which often revolve around the tension between the beautiful and the tragic. The works are based on publications taken from the mass media. The photographic publications are carefully selected for their potential to be transformed from closed, local narratives into open, universal narratives, with reference to the political, private and allegorical. A transformation that takes place in the painting process and which emphasizes their materiality and tactile characters, blurring distracting visual noise.
The paintings examine the sensuous nuances of our reality and the complex intermingling of fiction.
Qasimi has, among other things, exhibited at Arken, Trapholt, Willumsens Museum, Galleri Tom Christoffersen and at Kunsthal Charlottenborg, and represented Denmark at the JCE Biennale 2017-2019.
