The artists' own exhibition venues were celebrated

“The villa here and the Pompeii Hall, in which we are gathered, ooze with energy. The brewer knew how important art is – both for the individual and for society.”

This is how BKF's chairman Nis Rømer began the awarding of the new BKF prize Artist-run Exhibitions of the Year 2016, in front of the approx. 150 festive guests in the packed Pomepjisal in the Carlsberg area of Copenhagen, Thursday 27 October.

"We think it's a suitable place to celebrate artistic activity and some of the most avant-garde, experimental and social we have on the art scene. It is a field that is volatile and constantly changing. Where artists work idealistically with their colleagues to create art for everyone. Where you as an audience get some of the best art experiences and discover artists you will follow for many years to come.”

"It has been unbelievably difficult to choose and we wish we could award far more, because the quality, number and activity is overwhelming. That is why we are also happy to say that we are working on making a similar celebration again next year," said Nis Rømer and then lifted the veil on who the winners of Artist-run Exhibition Venues of the Year 2016 is:
