AI-generated images are not free

The very popular generative text-to-image models, which manage to convert text messages into images with the help of artificial intelligence, created a lot of attention in 2022. It is so impressive and captivating that anyone and everyone without any artistic background can create extremely creative and technically well-executed illustrations simply using a piece of nifty software.

But from a copyright point of view, it is of course very questionable, because the images do not come from nothing, but are based on already existing images on the web, created by artists, photographers, illustrators and many others who have put both soul and talent and economy in their works and now have to see them separated and mixed up with all sorts of others in more or less ludicrous contexts.
