The Association of Visual Artists met the Culture Committee

Today, the Association of Visual Artists represented the Danish Parliament's Culture Committee at the Kulturmødet Mors, where BKF's representative Marie Thams had the opportunity to put forward a number of concrete proposals on how art and the work of artists can be strengthened.

"I am very happy that the Culture Committee wanted to welcome us and that I had the opportunity to talk about some of the things we are concerned with - above all, diversity in the art world, art's contribution to the green transition and the importance of creating a more sustainable economy for visual artists," says Marie Thams, who experienced great interest in BKF's views in the Culture Committee:

"When we believe that the role of art must be strengthened in society, it is not just for the sake of the artists, but because society needs the arts. Not only as entertainment and diversion, but also as part of the solution to significant social problems. I experienced great understanding of that point of view," she says.

Time was short, so Marie Thams used the opportunity to distribute an in-depth paper to the committee members with a number of BKF's most important focal points, namely:

  • Strengthen children's and young people's encounter with the visual arts
  • Oblige the publicly supported art institutions to pay artists' fees
  • Commit the publicly supported art institutions to work for equality and diversity
  • Make art a natural part of the green transition
  • Modernize the art circular
