New exhibition remuneration for visual artists

The Visual Artists' Association and the Artists' Trade Union have, in collaboration with VISDA, designed a new scheme whereby visual artists receive an extra remuneration for exhibition activities in Denmark.

"We are very happy to have got this scheme up and running. It is a substantial addition to the regular copyright remuneration and a good addition to our recommendation for minimum exhibition fees. This arrangement applies to all types of exhibitions by living visual artists who have exhibited in one of the country's recognized museums or art galleries, as well as to exhibitions in public spaces, in artist-run exhibition venues, galleries, etc. I hope that everyone who has exhibited in the past year will apply for the remuneration," says head Marie Thams from the Association of Visual Artists.

The scheme can be applied for through VISDA as Additional remuneration for visual artists.

VISDA distributes copyright remuneration individually to the authors whose works have been used in, among other things, teaching, books, television, public and private institutions, etc. The payouts are calculated via reports from users, sample surveys or statistical calculations.

The new scheme for additional remuneration is implemented as it is not always possible for VISDA to receive 100% comprehensive data, for example due to a lack of credit. The distribution takes place partly on the basis of statistical data from related areas, partly on the basis of a points system. Therefore, some of the money ends up in a pool, which is now paid out to individual rights holders on the basis of a points system based on exhibition activity. The payouts will range from DKK 500 to DKK 10.000. A total of approximately DKK XNUMX million has been set aside for the scheme, which will be evaluated on an ongoing basis.

As a visual artist, you apply by entering data about the exhibitions you have had in Denmark in the past year. The more activity, the greater the remuneration. You can apply for the additional remuneration until 31 March.
